VP Racing Cool Down is a coolant additive for gas and diesel engines that works with antifreeze, modern OAT and HOAT coolants, or straight-water cooling systems. Its advanced formula reduces coolant surface tension to improve coolant flow and heat transfer through the engine and radiator.
Cool Down helps lower coolant temperatures by up to 30°F and cylinder head temperatures by up to 75°F, helping high-demand engines manage heat more effectively. It also lubricates water pumps and seals while helping protect all cooling-system metals, including aluminum, from corrosion and electrolysis.
Use VP Cool Down in street vehicles, race cars, trucks, RVs, towing applications, diesel engines, and powersports equipment. The formula also includes dispersants that help prevent sludge and deposits, supporting a cleaner and more efficient cooling system.
One 16-ounce bottle treats cooling systems from 12 to 20 quarts. Before the first use, clean the system with VP Racing Frosty Clean Cooling System Cleaner & Flush to help maximize Cool Down performance.

For street-driven vehicles with air conditioning, maintain at least 15% antifreeze in the cooling system.
Frequently asked questions
What does VP Racing Cool Down do?
VP Racing Cool Down is a coolant additive that improves heat transfer by reducing coolant surface tension. It helps lower operating temperatures, supports coolant flow, lubricates water pumps and seals, and helps protect the cooling system from corrosion and electrolysis.
Can I use VP Cool Down with antifreeze?
Yes. Cool Down works with antifreeze and is formulated for use with today's OAT and HOAT engine coolants. When used as directed, it should not disrupt the freeze protection provided by glycol-based antifreeze.
How much VP Cool Down should I use?
One 16-ounce bottle treats cooling systems holding 12 to 20 quarts. For coolant systems over 20 quarts, add one ounce of Cool Down for each additional quart.
How much should I use in a straight-water cooling system?
For full corrosion protection in a straight-water system, use 50% more Cool Down. VP Racing recommends using reverse-osmosis water labeled as purified drinking water for best results.
Can I use Cool Down in a diesel engine?
Yes. Cool Down is suitable for diesel engines. For full protection of wet sleeve cylinder liners in diesel applications, use twice the standard amount.
Can I use Cool Down in powersports equipment?
Yes. For powersports applications, use 2 ounces of Cool Down per quart of coolant.
How often should I add VP Cool Down?
Add one pint every year or every 30,000 miles. After the fifth consecutive year of use, drain, flush, and refill the cooling system.
Does Cool Down replace antifreeze?
No. Cool Down is an additive, not a replacement for antifreeze or coolant. It can be used with a coolant mixture or with straight water in applications where straight water is appropriate.

APPLICATIONS & RATIOS:
- Coolant Applications (12-20 quarts): One pint bottle treats 12-20 quarts. For coolant systems over 20 quarts, add one ounce of Cool Down for each additional quart.
- Straight Water Applications: For full corrosion protection, add 50% more Cool Down. Use reverse osmosis water labeled "Purified Drinking Water" for optimal results.
- Diesel Applications: For full protection of wet sleeve cylinder liners, add twice the amount.
- Powersport Applications: Use 2 oz per quart of coolant.
- Frequency: Add one pint every year or every 30,000 miles. After the 5th consecutive year, drain, flush, and refill the cooling system.
Can you mix this additive with antifreeze?
Yes, you can. Cool Down works great with antifreeze. It is formulated for use with today’s OAT and HOAT-formula engine coolants. We recommend changing your coolant every 2 years.
How do I use Cool Down™?
Just open the bottle and add the contents straight into the radiator or coolant reservoir. If you have access to a radiator cap, pouring Cool Down directly into the radiator is the preferred method. One 16 oz. bottle will treat cooling systems of 12-20 quarts.
Will your coolant additive work in cold weather climates?
If used as directed, it shouldn’t disrupt the freeze protection provided by traditional antifreeze that contains glycol.
